Andreas Gursky

Andreas Gursky

Andreas Gursky is a German visual artist known for his large format architecture and landscape color photographs, often employing a high point of view

Gursky received strong training and influence from his teachers Hilla and Bernd Becher, a photographic team known for their distinctive, dispassionate method of systematically cataloging industrial machinery and architecture.

Gursky is also famous for producing the first and second most expensive image ever sold.
The image below, Rhein II sold at auction for 4.4 million dollars breaking his own record of
3.3 million for 99cents.

Rhein II.

99 cents.

My thoughts.

I like Andreas use of geometric shapes and fine detail in his images, it really shows the full potential of using large format cameras, although I`m at a loss to why his images sell for such a high price.
